We are excited to share this project we developed for Black Achievement Month 2020 together with Pride Radio. In this Social Media focused campaign, we shared stories from three local musical talents about their views on Black Achievement Month and how this intersects with their queer identity.
Although Black Achievement Month is celebrated for just one month in the year, we underscored the importance of celebrating Black Achievement every day, all year round.
The words of the founder of PrideRadio, Gyor Moore; “Pride Radio exists to discover, amplify, and celebrate Queer artists and music worldwide. It is an online radio station that plays queer artists 24 hours a day to achieve more representation and generate exposure for them in the media. Pride Radio has made it their mission to give the LGBTQ+ community a voice and a platform that is not dominated by record labels, sponsorships, the sexualization of artists, misogyny, toxic masculinity, and the number of streams.”
The project has been shared over 500 times on PrideRadio’s Instagram and was shared in the Dutch, Harpers Bazar. If we want to normalise and celebrate black achievement and queer music, we need to move outside of our bubble and use the media to carry the message. We hope to inspire other creators to use their creative power for impact.
